Be prepared to embrace life in a small, remote location where animals outnumber people, and there are no shopping opportunities or nightlife.
Instead, your spare time will be filled with activities like fishing, hiking, or simply cuddling the huskies. You'll be warmly welcomed as a member of the close-knit local community.
To thrive in this environment, you'll need to be comfortable working and studying both independently and as part of a team. Outdoor experience is essential, as is a passion for the wilderness. You'll also need to be physically fit and understand what it means to contribute to the farm work necessary to run a dogsledding business. Quick learners who can follow instructions while being flexible and self-reliant will feel right at home.
Your efforts will blend seamlessly into both farm work and family life, as this career is not just a job but a lifestyle. The rewards include immersing yourself in breathtaking nature, spotting wild animals right outside your door, and mastering dog handling skills. By the end, you'll come away with a deeper understanding of sled dogs and a certificate validating your hard work, prepared for Step 2 if you so choose.
